‘ONE JUROR AGAINST THE REST’
Lemonhead Productions, producers of ‘Animal Farm’, ‘Don Quixotte’ and ‘Jien Hu’ for both television and the stage, will be staging a Maltese adaptation of Reginald Rose’s ‘12 Angry Men’. Bryan Muscat will direct a strong cast of 12 actors in this Emmy Award-winning script. The Maltese version, ‘Gurija Rrabjata’, was performed at the MITP Theatre, Valletta, in November 2002.
Reginald Rose’s ‘12 Angry Men’ is a thought-provoking drama about a jury evaluating a seemingly open-and-shut murder case in which a 16-year-old is accused of killing his father. One juror challenges the rest with a ‘not guilty’ vote. What follows is a battle of words, morals and class distinctions. In 1954, ‘12 Angry Men’ won the Emmy Award as a television drama and was later produced as a film. The 1957 production, starring Henry Fonda, was nominated for two Oscars.
For ‘Gurija Rrabjata’, director Bryan Muscat assembled a cast drawn from Lemonhead’s pool of talent. Familiar faces include Chrysander Agius (Mini Bugz, Mhux Biex Inxewwex, X’fattart), Ethel Kawki (Kraxx, Shelly Rainer, L-Ispettur Lowell) and Miriam Christine, a popular singer and TV personality. Bryan Muscat, creator of Mini Bugz and Mhux Biex Inxewwex, also stars.
The play has been classified as suitable for audiences aged 16 and above.
